Tired of the usual white sand beach? Black Sand Beach or Punalu’u Beach is the place for you. The beach has black san made of basalt, created by cooling lava flowing into the ocean. Although there are a number of black sand beaches in Hawaii, Punalu’u beach hosts a lot of rare and endangered native animals like the hawksbill turtle, green turtle, Hawaiian monk seal and many more.

2. Pink Sand Beach, Bahamas

Unbelievable, but true! This beach’s pink sands were made from microscopic coral insects known as Foraminifera which have a bright pink or red shell full of holes. After the organism dies, its shell washes up on the shore to give it a pink tinge. Aside from the attractive color, the waters are relatively calm and shallow making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming.

3. Bioluminescent Beach, The Maldives

This is the stuff of dreams. These organisms that emit light on the shores were first thought to be phytoplankton, but were later confirmed as ostracod crustaceans. But whatever they are, they looked like stars that fell and shine on the ocean.

4. Hidden Beach, Mexico

Locally known Playa Del Amor, this secret paradise was created due to a bomb in the early 1900’s. The Hidden Beach is invisible from the outside and can only be accessed via a long water tunnel. Another beach that looks like something straight out from a fiction novel, it provides a romantic ambiance and a safe haven for romance.

5. Whitehaven Beach, Australia

The white sands of this beach in Australia look heavenly, consisting of 98% pure silica. Due to the material, the ground does not retain heat so you can walk barefoot even on the hottest day. Furthermore, this beach has been awarded as the most eco-friendly beach in the world.

6. Hot Water Beach, New Zealand

A beach which hosts a free spa! What more can you ask for? Just make sure to bring a shovel and bucket to make your own DIY spa. The underground water can be as hot as 64 degrees Celsius due to its geothermal location.

7. Maho Beach, St Maarten

This beach is not for the faint of heart. While cozying up on the pristine beach, you may encounter from time to time low-flying airplanes. It is because the beach is very close to Princess Juliana International Airport where these planes land.

8. Chandipur Beach, India

This beach disappears every morning twice a day throughout the year! And it isn’t just a case of low tide happening, the water recedes up to 5 kilometers. During this time, you can walk in the area to explore the sea bed on foot.

9. Pig Beach, Big Major Cay, Bahamas

This uninhabited island was taken over by feral pigs under unknown or disputed circumstances. Although it is still a mystery how the pigs got there, it has now become an additional tourist attraction for people wanting to see the island.

10. Glass Beach, Fort Bragg, California

What’s interesting about this beach is the fact that it was once a dumpsite in 1900s. Due to efforts of clean up, the beach was able to retain its then pristine condition. However, the left over glass was shaped by ocean waves into smooth pieces of jewelry.
